Abstract:
In his Traicté des negoces et traffiques, published in 1599 and addressed to King Henry IV of France, Louis Turquet de Mayerne proposed a major reform of the organization of trade, here studied through the central question of the regulation of marketplaces. His proposal for a strict royal regulation of marketplaces was in fact part of a broader political project that is close to the Monarchomach and Calvinist writings, but whose economic dimensions are not without recalling mercantilist ideas.
