Abstract:
This article applies self-determination theory in the context of the caregiving work in nursing homes for dependent older adults located in France, where they are called Établissements d'Hébergement pour Personnes Âgées Dépendantes (EHPADs). The first objective of this study is to understand the mediating effect of psychological need satisfaction between perceived organizational support and autonomous motivation. The second objective is to identify clearly the types of support that can be used to promote autonomous motivation at work and encourage positive behavior. A qualitative study has been used and the data was analyzed by Iramuteq. Practical managerial solutions are evoked to support the needs of caregivers in order to encourage positive work behaviors.
