Abstract:
The objective of this article is to highlight the governance mechanisms within SMEs in developing countries and in this perspective, we have adopted a qualitative exploratory approach by interviewing, in the form of semi-structured interviews, 21 SME managers from Senegal. Our results show that entrepreneurs use classic and/or transversal governance mechanisms. In addition, if the effectiveness and efficiency of traditional governance are proven, it is not always adapted to the socio-cultural realities integrated by transversal governance. This involves local actors who use their spiritual and social influences to interfere in entrepreneurial activities. They thus facilitate access to sources of financing which are often solidarity-based, to new outlets, and also promote the coexistence of formal and informal exchanges while compensating for the lack of legitimacy of leaders.
