Abstract:
Norms are often perceived as business constraints. However, the very essence of norms, defined by French law, is to support general interest as they encourage economic development and innovation from a societal and sustainable development perspective. Under this light, norms can be grasped as strategic opportunities for organizations. This research highlights how architectural firms, faced with the many restrictions in the building environment, can transform what they most often perceive as regulatory constraints into strategic opportunities. Based on a qualitative study within architectural firms, this research shows that the strategic involvement of these organizations in norms management reduces risks associated with deficient mastery of norms and promotes internal innovations. The research also provides avenues for the development of a transversal strategic cooperation network aimed at improving societal performance and norms implementation in building industry.
