Abstract:
While the Dubai World Expo, which ended at the end of March, was a clear success, the French bid for Paris 2025 was a failure. A first economic, touristic, cultural and urban assessment of the Emirati mega-event makes it possible to study the stakes and the profitable strategies in order to identify the errors committed by France and to reflect on the major axes of a successful candidacy for the next decades. On March 31, 2022, in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the 35th World Expo, governed by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), closes. The success of this giant event is impressive if we take into account the fact that it is a world-class mega-event in the same way as the Olympic Games. Moreover, the Dubai authorities postponed for a year the cultural event initially planned for 2020-2021, which was then held at the end of the Covid-19 pandemic crisis. The comparison with Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games should be taken into account in its strategy and the results obtained. The choice of the organizers and the Emirates is to emerge from the top of the pandemic crisis and to use the universal exhibition as an economic and tourist lever in the short, medium and long term. We arrive at three results, the Dubai World Expo 2020 is an economic success thanks to the complete integration of this mega-event into the chain of the tourism and business industry of the United Arab Emirates (critical analysis of the latest figures and economic and tourist statistics), tourism is an element that makes it possible to change the image of the United Arab Emirates from the post-event creation of a so-called ecological city "City expo" for the next COP 21 meeting, this allowing us to propose an original analysis matrix to organize an exhibition in order to help French professionals, "Four major challenges, matrix for a candidate city".
