Abstract: Concerns related to environmental issues are more than ever a hot topic. Companies must protect themselves from reputational risk by having increasingly sophisticated and legally constrained extra-financial communication. This environment, which favors the development of shareholder engagement, is not a new phenomenon. Indeed, shareholder engagement is only one of the practices of socially responsible investment. However, it often has its roots in ancient religious concerns. It is this whole chronology and its links that we will highlight in this article.
