Abstract: This paper reviews the two major theoretical contributions of Raymond Boudon's L'Inégalité des chances (translated into English as: Education, Opportunity, and Social Inequality), i.e. the theory of inequality of educational opportunities and the theory of social mobility, it then introduces Boudon's answers to the criticisms formulated in some early reviews of his book, and, finally, assesses the influence of this work.
