Abstract:
This paper analyses the impact of budgetary constraints on military spending, in France since 1971. An indicator of the budgetary pressure is calculed and permit to conclude that military expenditures are never used by the government to increase the economic activity; on the other hand, when restrictions of budget are decided, defense is the first aimed; when budgetary pressure is neutral, civil budget increases to the detriment of defense budget. Lastly, until 1988, budgetary restrictions aim at first ordinary military spending and less hardly equipment spending.
