Abstract:
In the general classification of societies, the economic dimensions are as essential as they are often neglected. As the pioneering work of Alain Testart has shown, the emergence of wealth is the most important turning point in the history of social relations. While adhering to this view, this article nevertheless highlights the problems raised by this researcher's definition of wealth and proposes an alternative formulation.
