Abstract:
The development of Public Service Motivation (PSM) since the 1990's has led to the identification of the existence of a specific motivation of public servants, but also to the identification of the positive effects of this form of motivation. This study examines the effect of PSM on individual performance through the mediating effect of organisational citizenship behaviour. A sample of 308 Directors General of Services (DGS) in local government institutions (municipalities and EPCIs with their own tax system) is used to examine this relationship. This research contributes to the literature on MSP in the French context, and this, in the light of territorial specificities concerning a specific public manager between politics and administration.
