Abstract: Following the fast growth of the hydrogen economy, properly modelling the Hydrogen Supply Chain (HSC) becomes pivotal for a successful take-off. While recent review papers focus on the Bottom-Up hydrogen literature, this paper is the first to our knowledge to include Top-down approaches into a complete assessment of the models and mathematical formulations used to answer a variety of hydrogen-related research questions. Based on a thorough analysis of modeling choices and tools found in the HSC literature, we provide a refined classification of research papers through clustering and discriminant analysis. Using original measurement methods, we quantify the difficulty of associating existing modelling choices within a single methodology and identify opportunities and methodological blind spots for the hybridization of HSC-related research approaches.
