Abstract:
In this article, we examine the issues and consequences of the two modes of governance favoured by consortium blockchains and single-actor blockchains within supply chains. To do so, we use transaction costs as an analytical grid and we rely on a case study conducted with a consumer goods distributor. Our analysis shows that, whatever the mode of governance considered, blockchain technology promotes the creation of a space of trust through the use of specific coordination assets (smart contracts and consensus algorithms) and through the existence of a regulator.
