Abstract: Managerial innovation becomes a strategic issue for firms in the context of an economy where an intensive innovation regime is essential. In the field of managerial innovation, we propose to report on the invention of a new management technique in a reputedly innovative sector, the cultural sector. This work lies in the paradigm of "Design Inquiry" according to Dewey (1938/1993). By mobilizing an ethnographic approach, from a grounded theory perspective, we document the practical rationality implemented by the actors along the way in their daily activity, in the context of a live performance programming enterprise subject to a regulation break in the process of public funding attribution. This new technique emerges through different phases that can be enriched with the proposals of Birkinshaw et al. (2008), and the new managerial technique can be documented as a management tool by distinguishing an artefact, a distribution of roles and a management philosophy (Hatchuel, Weil, 1992). In conclusion, we discuss the contributions of this article in the field of managerial innovation.
