Abstract: The literature on institutional partnerships, and on inter-university partnerships in particular, tells us that success is not always forthcoming. The aim of this article is therefore to highlight the key factors in the development and success of these types of partnerships, using the metaphor of a couple as an illustration and taking the case of the IAE at the University of Poitiers. The results showed that to be successful, inter-university collaboration must not only be contractual in nature, but must also include more interpersonal aspects. It also needs to be based on trust and sharing. Finally, the parties involved need to be able to accept and cope with change. The results also showed that the creation of an ecosystem of knowledge, research and training is an essential element in the development of partnerships.
