Abstract: Social microfranchises are perceived as structures allowing « the systematisation and replication of enterprises » (Fairbourne, 2006). They are levers for the attainment of social objectives (Volery, Hackl V, 2010), notably that of tackling poverty (Burand and Koch, 2010), by associating local populations in a job incubator (Christensen et al., 2010). In terms of the success of these projects aimed at improving the health of rural communities and providing them access to the most pressing needs, stakeholder involvement is crucial, especially as it is necessary to take into account a mix of local and international culture and local embedding. Human capital takes on its full dimension. In this paper, based on a longitudinal case study with an embedded design (Yin, 1984) of a social enterprise mainly active in Cambodia with the involvement of 150 microfranchisees and mobilizing cognitive mapping for the analysis of the data collected, the first results show the prevailing character of human capital in the success of social franchises. We also observe a form of appropriation and a local empowerment of people involved into this initiative.
