Abstract: The document discusses Vietnam's energy transition in the power sector and emphasizes the potential for rapid systemic change to meet increasing power demands. It highlights the competitive nature of renewable energy costs relative to fossil fuels, and the exponential growth of solar and wind power generation. The insights presented suggest that renewables, along with hydro, flexible thermal power, and batteries, can ensure system reliability at acceptable costs. Power market reforms are proposed as a way to facilitate investment in clean energy, and technological trends indicate a shift towards a smart, decentralized energy system. International cooperation is recognized as playing a significant role in Vietnam's shift from coal to more domestic, affordable, and quickly implementable renewable energy sources.
