Abstract: This paper investigates the relationship between entrepreneurial alertness (EA) and firm performance, aiming to uncover the underlying mechanisms. Building on resource-based theory and resource orchestration theory, it explores in this relationship the mediating roles of interactive control systems (ICS) as a coordination mechanism, and entrepreneurial orientation (EO) as a mobilization mechanism. Drawing on a sample of 276 French SME CEOs, the study confirms the positive association between EA and firm performance. Structural equation modeling reveals significant mediation effects of ICS and EO, suggesting that the coordination and mobilization of resources play crucial roles in translating EA into firm performance.
