Abstract: On a global scale, France holds the top position as the leading wine exporter in terms of value and ranks third in terms of volume. This leading position is attributed to the high-end positioning of wines marketed for export. Utilizing information from the economic observatory of the High Council for Agricultural Cooperation (HCCA) and conducting semi-structured interviews with companies and industry organizations, this chapter analyzes the export positioning of the French wine cooperative sector and its evolution between 2015 and 2020. It first introduces the unique characteristics of agricultural and wine cooperatives and their significance in the French wine industry. The chapter then delves into the evolution, downstream strategies and governance modes of wine cooperatives. Finally, it provides an analysis of the export strategies of French wine cooperatives and cooperative federations.
