Abstract: Basic human values are an excellent indicator of political participation behavior. They explain three times more the variance in voting than personality traits (Caprara et al., 2006; Schwartz, 2006). Therefore, it seems important to study the influence of basic human values on intentions to sign offline and online petitions. This is the aim of this research. To this end, a quantitative questionnaire study was carried out. The results show the effects of self-transcendence and openness to change on online and offline petition signing intention. This research also shows that universalism, benevolence, and self-direction have a greater influence on offline petition signing intention than on online petition signing intention, while stimulation and hedonism have a greater effect on online petition signing intention. It also highlights the influence of tradition on offline petition signing intention, and the effects of achievement on online petition signing intention. This research enables petitioners and online petitions platforms to better understand the different petitioner profiles.
