Abstract:
The article assesses the extent to which the digitalisation of farms can rebalance farmers' dependence on the supply chain. The authors consider the Resource Dependency Theory and examine whether digital technology is associated with the implementation of control strategies that reduce dependency on downstream players in the supply chain and enable farms to grow. We use data from the 2010 Agricultural Census and the 2013 Structure Survey. The Propensity Score matching method, coupled with the double difference method, shows that the adoption of digital tools goes hand in hand with a strengthening of farmers' autonomy vis-à-vis players in the supply chain. It is also associated with an increase in the wage intensity of farms
