Abstract: The 31st European Safety and Reliability Conference – ESREL 2021 was held in Angers, France and was orga- nized by Université d'Angers and the European Safety and Reliability Association (ESRA). During ESREL 2021, a special session on ‘‘Advancements in Resilience Engineering of Critical Infrastructures'' was organized by Rasa Remenyte-Prescott, University of Nottingham, UK, Lead of European Safety, Reliability & Data Association (ESReDA) Project Group on Resilience Engineering and Modeling of Networked Infrastructures and Giovanni Sansavini, ETH Zurich, Chair of the ESRA Technical Committee on Critical Infrastructures. Following ESREL 2021 and this special session, this special section including five papers was collated with the objective of highlighting and disseminating current state-of-the-art methods and their practical applications in reliability, risk, and resilience engineering for structures and infrastructures.
