Abstract: What shadows lie behind the promise of digital technology to make agri-food systems fully sustainable? Looking at digital transformativeness through the lens of the concept of transformative power, we highlight four of them: spillovers, situated power, linkages and individualities. The responsible approach to innovation allows us to examine each of these and their dynamics. We use this conceptual framework to introduce the papers in this special issue.
