Promoting Climate Leadership Through Experiential Learning: The Case of The Net Zero Bike Tour

Abstract: Climate change is a complex issue that is difficult for most people to understand. As management educators, we need to think creatively about how we prepare students for the organizational and managerial challenges. In this paper, we report on the learning outcome of the Net Zero Bike Tour, an experiential learning course that adopts an integrative pedagogy to promote climate leadership. Throughout this nine-day course offered as an elective course in a master's program in management and sustainability, participants focus on real life problems, are asked to use cycling as their main mode of transportation and are invited to share their thoughts in a journal at the end of each day. Building on quantitative and qualitative data collected, we share our insights into the program and show how it impacted participants' learning, including their sense of agency.
