Abstract:
In a highly volatile environment, non-profit organisations (NPOs) face both an increase in known risks and the emergence of new types of risks. It is therefore vital for them to use appropriate frameworks and effective tools to analyse, monitor and manage risks. Particular attention is paid to the implementation of enterprise risk management (ERM), which is a structured and holistic approach to identifying, assessing, managing and reporting on the uncertainties faced by an organisation and can be seen as a lever for creating societal value. Taking into account the difficulties of implementing a risk management system in NPOs, a conceptual framework is proposed that integrates the relevant features of ERM and the management characteristics of NPOs. It can be used as a guide by professionals wishing to establish or maintain an effective risk management system or to engage in a process of continuous improvement in risk management. It should also lead researchers to consider and explore promising avenues of research.
