Abstract:
In response to an unprecedented pandemic, healthcare organizations across numerous countries have surmounted cultural and structural barriers to implement a series of organizational transformations aimed at addressing the continuously evolving demand for care. By conceptualizing the crisis context as a learning opportunity, we propose the following research question: What interactional mechanisms underpin the dynamics of organizational transformations within hospitals in a health crisis context? To address this question from an international perspective, empirical studies were conducted in the Luxembourg and French contexts. A phase of 28 semi-structured interviews conducted between September 2021 and December 2022 with diverse professionals employed in two Luxembourg hospitals was complemented by an observational period in a French hospital. The findings elucidate the modalities of inter-professional and inter-hierarchical interactions during the organizational transformation process from a multi-level perspective, examined through the lens of the structurationist approach.
