Abstract: Under what conditions are an organisation's activities acceptable, responsible and desirable? By underlining the fact that all performance is relative to objectives, and therefore to morals or ethics, and by adding that all ethics – and all human work – require the concrete construction of reasonable forms of collaboration between human beings, Robert Le Duff enables us to question the current answers to this question. The UN and the EU are implementing a set of transnational human rights protection standards designed to make the activities of organisations socially acceptable and ‘responsible'. They do this despite recurring political challenges. For these measures to be truly desirable and ethical, they must provide effective protection for individuals and groups. Researchers can contribute to the study and improvement of these systems through a large number of research themes that are little used in management despite their theoretical and practical interest.
