Abstract:
Humanitarian supply chains (HSCs) are critical for providing emergency relief to affected populations in disaster-stricken areas. However, these supply chains are complex due to the involvement of multiple stakeholders, uncertain demand and supply, and the need for quick accessibility to the affected area. Thus, the emergence of Industry 4.0 enablers, such as Big Data, RFID, IoT, Blockchain, and Artificial Intelligence, has the potential to improve the resiliency and agility of HSCs. In this context, this paper aims to investigate the impact of Industry 4.0 enablers on the performance of HSCs. To achieve this objective, the enablers of Industry 4.0 for HSCs were identified through a comprehensive literature review and expert judgment. Next, these enablers were evaluated using the Grey-DEMATEL-ISM hybrid framework to understand the overall degree of impact of each enabler over the others. Hence, this paper's significance lies in the increasing research attention to implementing Industry 4.0 enablers in HSCs to design effective and efficient humanitarian relief operations. By providing insights into the impact of Industry 4.0 enablers on HSCs' performance, this study can assist in designing Humanitarian supply chains 4.0 and determining which enablers must be used to ensure fast and effective help, simplicity of victim identification, and open communication among stakeholders.
