Abstract:
Industry dynamics have significantly affected the development of ethical organizational culture. This ethical organizational culture subsequently affects job commitment and job response. The present study investigates the effect of ethical organizational culture on job commitment and job response across multiple industries within one specific institutional context. We tested eight aspects of ethical organizational culture in six industries operating in the Czech Republic: Building and Construction, Public Sector, IT and Communication, Manufacturing, Retail and Transport and logistics. The results indicated that out of six industries, ethical organizational culture positively affected job commitment only in the building and construction industry. In contrast, it positively affected job response only in the public, manufacturing, and retail sectors. The results shed light on the awareness and signaling of ethical organizations within Czech firms. The results suggest that, unlike countries in the West, the signaling of application and realization of robust ethical organizational culture is still at the infant stage across Czech firms, as very few industries showed the positive effect of ethical organizational culture on job commitment and job response. We believe that developing and communicating ethical dimensions to employees might improve the positive impact of ethical organizational culture among Czech firms.
