Abstract:
Incubators, accelerators, co-working spaces, or so-called third places are places dedicated to supporting entrepreneurs, and they have proliferated across regions in recent years. They are designed to give entrepreneurs access to a wide range of resources to help them develop a project or their business. These places can be specialized in an activity (e.g., tech, social innovation, cultural and creative industries) or in a type of resource (e.g., peer networking, workspace, business development). In many cases, the geographical proximity afforded by co-presence in a given location enables the exchange of tacit knowledge. This can be related to business opportunities, a new job, or even finding partners for a joint project. The academic literature associated with the analysis of entrepreneurial ecosystems through places remains largely empirical. It focuses on how each of these places can develop entrepreneurial capacity, both for the entrepreneur and, ultimately, for the region.
