Abstract: Project success leads to a country's development and achievement of its strategic goal. However, in Somaliland many projects allocated to different sectors have not been successful in the past years due to unknown reasons. For instance, the projects implemented by Local Non-Governmental Organizations in Borama District, have experienced a downward trend as a result of huge project failure. Therefore, the study investigated the influence of project team competence on project success of local Nongovernmental organizations in Borama District. The objectives of the study were to determine the influence of project team communication skills, project team leadership skills, and project team conflict resolution skills on project success of local Nongovernmental organizations in Borama District. Based on competence theory, the study used a cross sectional survey on 60 project managers and other staffs of local non-governmental organizations Borama district. The data was collected using questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics through multiple regressions analysis. The study found that project team communication skills had no significance effect on project success of LNGOs in Borama, District. The study found that project team leadership skills had a significance effect on project success of LNGOs in Borama, District. The study also found that project team conflict resolution skills had a significance effect on project success of LNGOs in Borama, District. The study concludes that project team competence has a significant influence on project success of LNGOs in Borama district. The study recommends that the board of directors and project team in LNGOs should be equipped with right knowledge and competencies required in the process of implementing projects successfully. Project team competence had a positive effect on project success therefore, the practices and efforts to improve of project team competence are very important for the projects of LNGOs to be successful.
