Promotional and Human Capital Development as Correlates of Administrative Staff Job Performance in Nigerian Polytechnic

Abstract: The research paper investigates the effects of promotional and human capital development on administrative staff job performance of polytechnics in Ogun state, Nigeria. A survey research design and descriptive analysis was adopted for this study. The population comprised the administrative staffs of polytechnics (state and private owned) in Ogun state, Nigeria. Using a stratified random sampling technique, 200 questionnaires were distributed to administrators in four state and two privately owned polytechnics in Ogun state. Using the multiple regression analysis, the study found that employees job performance components (such as effectiveness, efficiency and adaptability) are positively related with promotional and human capital development in Nigerian polytechnics. The study concludes that the impacts of promotional and human capital development were more on employee effectiveness compared to task efficiency and job adaptability respectively. On the policy front, human capital development must be prioritized so as to make workers more efficient and effective in their functions and career paths. Specifically, promotion, employees training and development needs to be communicated to both managers and employees.
