Abstract: It took an unprecedented two-year health crisis, spectacular production costs inflation and a war on European soil for the world banana market to come undone, not only in terms of value – which we are used to – but in terms of supply level. And Europe felt the full force of this generalised fall in the world supply, with prices finally adjusted upward. It is now time to think about the post-crisis, and transform the additional value due to the cost increases into social and environmental value surpluses.
