Abstract:
There was a suspicion that the pineapple market was not going to emerge unscathed from a particularly turbulent international context: a historic crisis in freight, booming input costs, euro/ dollar parity and three successive seasons of the La Niña climate phenomenon. But we were not expecting the fall in world trade to plunge us back into a situation similar to the one seen in the very poor pandemic year 2020. With just one exception, this time it was not demand which was lacking but the supply, undermined by a fall in productivity and even more marked trade-offs between markets. Indeed, while paradoxically growth on the US market continued, actually reaching new heights, in Europe, there has been no return from the decline which began back in 2021.
