Abstract: Work in agriculture is at the heart of many issues, but few approaches exist to study it in systemic agronomy. We document the development of two methodological approaches integrating an analysis of work in family farms in contrasting contexts. In Guaviare, Colombia, trajectories integrating the work organization are used to study the factors driving the evolution of a forest frontier territory. In Borgou, Benin, farm trajectories are used to identify indicators of access to motorization and work organization. In both cases, the analysis of work in agriculture is used to gain an overall understanding of farms in agrarian systems in transition. However, in both approaches the link between work and technical choices in cropping systems remains less studied. This observation points to the need to create or adapt approaches for the study of work by agronomists, based in particular on work organization approaches developed in systems zootechnics.
