Abstract:
Urban green spaces improve quality of life, but may reduce car space. We first propose a theoretical model to analyze this trade-off. A discrete choice experiment then shows that urban greening is valued for cooling and biodiversity, But there is resistance to significant reductions in car space. Positive global willingness to-pay (WTP) is observed for scenarios that improve biodiversity and air cooling with minimal loss of car space, while negative WTP arises when carspace is greatly reduced withoutsubstantial environmental benefits.
