Abstract:
Value concepts have undergone a migration from dyadic supplier-client conceptualizations towards hybrid co-creation processes including all actors in the process (Baron et al., 2014; Vargo & Lusch, 2008). From the 2000s on, different concepts of value creation have been developed (Vargo et al., 2008; Edvardsson et al., 2011; Helkkula et al., 2012; Echeverri and Skålén, 2011). This article is a preliminary research study as part of a bigger PhD research project. Through the perspective of Service Dominant Logic (Vargo & Lusch, 2004, 2008, 2011, 2016, 2017) we aim to better understand the phenomenon of crowdfunding as practiced by woodworkers on YouTube. The first results show that non-monetary value creation, such as feedback, recognition, and relationship building with the public, are among the important reasons for these alternative complementary income arrangements. Moreover, SDL allows for analysis of hybrid forms of value creation, notably axiological values related to life and vocational choices.
