Abstract:
This essay presents a critical transcription and contextual analysis of the 1771 inventory of Joaquín de la Canal, a clergyman from Burgos, preserved in the notarial protocols of the Archivo Histórico Provincial. The document offers a rare glimpse into the material culture, domestic furnishings, and ecclesiastical vestments of an 18th-century clerical household. Through detailed itemization and valuation—expressed in reales and maravedís—the inventory reveals the intersection of religious life, social status, and everyday utility. The study is supported by the transcription and a comparative bibliography on Spanish clergy, domestic interiors, and furniture history. Special attention is given to the visual and symbolic dimensions of selected objects, contributing to broader discussions on heritage documentation and historical memory.
