Abstract: The article addresses the problem of evaluating the performance of academic researchers. It offers an analysis and a discussion of a tool that is commonly used internationally, the h-index, based on authors' amount and type of publications and their citations. This study, which focuses on management science in the context of public universities and business schools, has a dual objective: to offer researchers a descriptive tool to assess various levels of performance in France; to allow for international comparison.
