Abstract: For more than 50 years, scientists have been warning about reaching Earth's physical limits. The overuse of natural resources has led to an ongoing environmental and climate crisis. In 1972, the report to the Club of Rome already warned of the limits of growth. Through this paper, we wish to understand how this report was received in France. To do this, we carry out an analysis of the press articles published in the French daily newspaper Le Monde between 1972 and today that mention it. While it is now a reference among studies on the ecological limits, it has also been widely criticized. In any case, it did not receive the reception hoped for by its authors and did not lead to the structural change they expected.
