Abstract:
Drawing on an analysis of the miniseries Tapie (Tristan Séguéla, 2023), this article demonstrates how it offers a renewed vision of the entrepreneurial couple, particularly by suggesting that the wife of the French businessman played a decisive role in the management and strategy of his company. This representation is examined in relation to the historical iconography of the entrepreneur, whose stereotypes have portrayed him as a virile, omniscient masculine figure with intuitively successful ventures. By revealing Bernard Tapie's vulnerabilities and the active role of his wife (in private), the series emphasizes the gap between management practices and their figurative embodiment. To understand the scope of this analysis, we watched the series Tapie, which recounts part of the life of the eponymous businessman, supplemented by other contemporary productions about entrepreneurs and by studying all the press articles devoted to this series (i.e. its context of production and reception). In addition, a documentary study (textual and videographic) of real historical figures and events was carried out in order to provide a point of comparison for assessing the nature of the narrative choices made by the authors of Tapie and the extent to which they interpreted the facts.
