Abstract: This chapter studies Chinese multinational investment in French Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs). The study proposes a methodology for identifying mutual asymmetries between Emerging Countries Multinational Enterprises (EMNEs), and SMEs in developed countries to compensate for their respective handicaps. The authors conducted a systematic search of press articles and company websites to identify 128 well-documented cases of Chinese investment in France between 1998 and 2019, including 65 cases involving French SMEs. It suggests that the interaction of reciprocal difficulties can create mutual opportunities, although the risk of predatory behavior cannot be ignored. The study emphasizes the exploratory nature of the research and the need for further studies on Chinese investment in developed countries.
