Abstract:
The western part of the Russian Arctic between the Kola and Yamal peninsula is a huge deposit of oil and gas. The various project aiming to exploit the oil and gas fields and to update ports or build them from scratch and are the evidence of a Russian strategy based on economic development. Because of the remoteness of the hydrocarbons resources and due to the necessity of crossing foreign countries to reach its main client, Europe, Russian authorities are compelled to build a port system dedicated to export raw materials directly to their clients, independently from the relation they may have with neighbor countries.
