Abstract: This research focuses on the question of underuse of integrated information technology through the lens of user resistance. Based on a qualitative longitudinal study in a big petroleum company, it analyzes the process and mechanism of development of this particular form in the case of an ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning). By mobilizing the model of Lapointe & Rivard (2005), we identified ‘under-exploitation' as an intermediate form of resistance linked to a continuous and iterative process, particularly present in post-implementation phase. In addition, our results identify three dimensions of under exploitation (informational, functional and individual) and emphasize that the consequences inherent in each dimension are likely to amplify user resistance.
