Abstract: This article examines the security challenges and their impact on access to education in the Mopti region in central Mali on the eve of the 2023-2024 academic year. Despite relatively substantial educational infrastructure, the region faces major challenges related to insecurity and adverse socio-economic conditions, which directly affect access to education, particularly at the primary school level. The study reveals that 25.58% of schools are closed due to insecurity, resource shortages, and health and food-related constraints, leading to high levels of absenteeism and school dropout. The research presents specific case studies and covers 24 communes across eight administrative circles in the region. While basic education schools are severely affected, secondary institutions appear to be less impacted due to their location and comparatively stronger security arrangements. The article highlights the urgent need to address the deterioration of educational infrastructure and disparities in school enrolment, particularly among girls. It concludes by emphasizing the need for a comprehensive strategy aimed at restoring security and promoting sustainable and inclusive development, thereby ensuring equitable access to education for all children in the region.
