Abstract: Innovation and law are two closely interconnected fields that mutually influence each other when it comes to regulating, protecting, and fostering the creation of new ideas, legal norms, products, services, or technologies. Building on the Law & Management approach, legal innovation represents an emerging field of research that seeks to understand the reciprocal influences between innovation and law. Positioned at the crossroads of law and innovation, the dual nature of legal innovation makes it complex, as it requires bridging theoretical and methodological frameworks from both disciplines. These Prolégomènes offer an initial reflection on the nature of legal innovation and its manifestations in both theory and practice. This reflection is further developed through the contributions in this special issue, which highlights theoretical and empirical research drawing on diverse methodological approaches, thereby enriching the study of legal innovation.
