Abstract: In his first article from 1982, Jérôme de Boyer envisions in the Treatise on Money the existence of two types of money in the monetary circulation: an asset-money and a circulating money, which are not merely differences in function. This article aims to account for these two types of money within the theory of liquidity preference. It thus traces the stages of the formation of these two types of money before analyzing the introduction of the finance motive in the demand for money function.
