Abstract:
This paper explores the articulation between railway culture and situated culture within the context of social and solidarity-oriented management, based on the case of SNCF. It examines how deeply rooted professional norms interact with situated practices in shaping collective action (Gherardi, 2006; Suchman, 2007). Drawing on a qualitative approach, the study highlights the role of tacit knowledge and contextualized competencies in everyday work situations (Polanyi, 1966; Nonaka & Takeuchi, 1995). The findings reveal tensions but also complementarities between institutionalized culture and emergent practices. The paper contributes to understanding how management can be grounded in social relations, shared meanings, and situated action.
