Abstract:
This article invites French business schools to find inspiration in the conclusions of the Carnegie Report, published ten years ago, and undertake ambitious but necessary reforms. Outlining the role of foundations and the major role of liberal arts in the US context, I firstly set out some aspects of the report, mainly its assessment of the problems and its suggestions with regard to teaching methods. I then look at implications for education and training, stressing the need to consider management as a profession and not "just" a technique. I conclude by drawing on the Carnegie Report to propose some reforms to business schools that would go further than superficial adjustments.
