Abstract: In a context where the remobilization of dune systems can occur spontaneously or be proposed as a nature-based management solution—offering multiple ecosystem benefits—assessing and anticipating the risk of dune migration is essential. In fact, when the vegetation cover is severely destabilized (due to climatic conditions, burial, or anthropogenic disturbances), sedimentary dynamics prevail over biotic control factors, and the dune begins to roll over on itself (eolian "rollover"). Without intervention, this process can continue for several decades or centuries, with vegetation unable to spontaneously stabilize these migrating dunes. Thus, assessing the migration rates of naturally evolving dunes raises the issue of the risk of burial of infrastructure, property, or, more generally, the areas located behind them. Based on topographic surveys conducted over a decade, this study explores how various internal parameters (characteristics of the dune system) influence the migration speed of free-moving dunes observed along the southwestern coast of France.
