Abstract: Beyond justifying the democratization of companies from a pragmatist and institutionalist perspective, this article aims to show that it is possible to characterize (and therefore potentially evaluate) the level of democracy in companies along three dimensions. Drawing on a multidisciplinary approach, in particular a large body of theoretical and empirical works in management, we highlight three main ways of understanding corporate democracy: corporate governance, which covers not only the company's legal status but also the way in which its management bodies operate, the internal organization of production in relation to employees, and external accountability to stakeholders.
